Hike to Monte di Dissimo – T

An easy hike, not far from Santa Maria Maggiore. Drive to the small village of Dissimo, part of the municipality of Re; the trail starts here.

Reach the small car park of Dissimo (860m), park your car and follow “Via al Monte”: a steep street that leads you through the village. Walk past the last houses of Dissimo and take the path M41 that goes through meadows into the wood.

Cross a small torrent and then go up a zigzag track to reach the first mountain huts of Monte Dissimo. From here you can enjoy a beautiful view over Valle Vigezzo, the villages of Re, Folsogno and Olgia, Monte Gridone and Centovalli that is part of the Swiss territory (don’t forget the Swiss border is only a few kilometers away from here!).

The path turns to the right towards east and it becomes level. After 200m you will reach a fountain with benches for picnic and a meadow with a little playground for children.

You can return along the same route or you can take the unpaved and level road on the right of the small chapel that leads to Alpe Caviano (1060m). From here walk down along the paved road until you reach the main road connecting Dissimo and Olgia. Turn right and continue until you reach the village of Dissimo.
